The Government of Gibraltar will train students in blockchain

The Government of Gibraltar recently launched the New Technologies in Education (NTiE) Advisory Group, which is responsible for meeting the growing demand for specialists in the new sector. According to an article published in the Gibraltar Chronicle on October 19, the group's main goal is to create educational material using blockchain technology.

NTiE is a joint initiative between the National University Government and local technology companies. Minister Gilbert Licudi, in charge of the University of Gibraltar, believes the government is on the right track. By investing in educational initiatives, Gibraltar can meet the demand for specialists in new technologies.

"The launch of the NTiE advisory group will be another step towards establishing Gibraltar as a hub for new technologies. In January 2018, the government already made an announcement that Gibraltar would be the first jurisdiction to provide a legislative framework for distributed ledger technology," said Nadine Collado, chair of the University of Gibraltar's governing body.

The university will be exploring a range of aspects blockchain technology, the main focus will be on programming and smart contracts. Members of the advisory group include many from the university and government, including the provost, the director of information communications and technology, the former director of education, and the senior director of education.

The University of Gibraltar is not the only educational institution investing in blockchain education. According to Gibraltar Finance Minister Albert Isola, half of the world's top 50 universities offer blockchain technology courses.

Some of these universities are in the United States, including the University of California, Berkeley, Princeton University and Duke University. The University of Nicosia, an educational institute located in Cyprus, is the first university to offer its applicants a master's degree in digital currencies.
