Coinbase offers its employees $5,000 a year to cover medical services like egg freezing. This employee benefit comes along with Coinbase's health insurance.
One Coinbase employee, who wished to remain anonymous, told CoinDesk:
It's definitely a luxury, and I'm glad that Coinbase helps me with family planning. Many people are relieved that they don't have to deal with family planning every day.
These benefits put Coinbase in the elite category of employers like Google, Apple and Facebook, which also provide egg freezing services.
John Paller, a specialist at recruiting agency Opolis, told CoinDesk:
Only high-paying, wealthy companies are thinking about providing such non-standard services. As for cryptocurrency companies, they are just beginning to figure out how to properly provide various benefits to their employees.
So this demonstrates that Coinbase, which recently raised $300 million in its latest funding round, is using its vast financial resources to attract blockchain talent. Coinbase does not disclose how many employees use these services. However, according to the company's vice president, these benefits are available to all employees and partners, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
Several smaller cryptocurrency companies, like wallet maker MyCrypto, which has 20 employees, have already begun offering paid paternity and maternity leave. Only a third of all American companies offer this benefit.
