IBM has developed the world's smallest one-millimeter-square computer and unveiled it this Monday at the Think 2018 conference.
The device is a cryptographic anchor built into the product - a tiny computer, protected from unauthorized access, working using blockchain technology and confirming the authenticity of the product. The technology will be used in cargo transportation to track deliveries from start to finish.
The miniature computer contains up to a million transistors and is equivalent in performance to an x86 processor. It can act as a host computer and is capable of transmitting, analyzing, controlling and even processing data.
The cost of such a computer does not exceed 10 cents. IBM intends to set up a production line for these "babies" because it believes they will soon be used around the world.
“In five years, such blockchain anchors will be implemented in most objects and devices,” says Arvind Krishna, head of research at IBM.
