Famous rapper and founder of Roc Nation, Shawn Carter, aka Jay-Z, has invested substantial capital in the financial trading platform Robinhood. This is the rapper's third investment in the high-tech sector.
Arrive, a subsidiary of Roc Nation that also counts Snoop Dog and Nasir Jones among its investors, has officially announced an investment in Robinhood in hopes of improving access to financial markets. More specifically, the company is interested in cryptocurrency trading without commissions. This, as you might guess, is where the platform's name comes from.
Neil Cearney, president of Arrive, wrote:
"We believe in making financial markets more accessible and cost-effective for customers. Robinhood has our support because our shared goals are aligned."
More than a million users have already asked to join the waitlist for Robinhood Crypto, a platform that allows anyone to trade stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETF) and major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum simultaneously using the same application. The emergence of the platform is highly anticipated due to the desire to bring to the market a real competitor to such large exchanges as Coinbase and Binance.
Robinhood's entry into the cryptocurrency market is expected in the crypto community, since the majority of Robinhood's client base is traditional financial markets, trading platforms and ETFs. The hope is that the launch of Robinhood Crypto will introduce millions of users of the Robinhood platform to the cryptocurrency world to create a relatively new asset class in cryptocurrency.
More importantly, while Robinhood Crypto has added over 1 million users to its waitlist, it's possible that Coinbase and Binance customers were already using Robinhood Crypto for cryptocurrency trading.
The fact that billion-dollar companies outside of the financial and cryptocurrency industries are investing in cryptocurrency is exciting. This suggests that the cryptocurrency community has room to grow and develop.
Multi-million dollar injections into the cryptocurrency business by large investors are beneficial for everyone, because businesses have more funds to maintain operations, and customers benefit from competition in this sector.
