One of Bitcoin's most respected developers is about to find a source of income for the next generation of open source protocol developers.
Jimmy Song, a partner at Blockchain Capital known for his easy-to-understand technical analysis of cryptocurrency, is currently developing a lab to train and financially reward cryptocurrency developers. Unofficially called Platypus Labs, the project will provide fellowships and internships to developers and will train developers of Bitcoin Core, the most commonly used version of bitcoin software.
The project, although in its early stages of development, has already attracted interest from several of Blockchain Capital's portfolio companies and a number of investors, Song said.
This is not surprising, given the lack of the required number of specialists compared to the number of available vacancies for developers. According to statistics from Indeed.com, the number of blockchain technology jobs in the United States increased by 207 percent between December 2016 and December 2017.
Blockchain Capital co-founder Bart Stevens said, “Without exception, all 62 companies in Blockchain Capital's portfolio are in need of developers. We are thrilled that Song will join us in supporting the project and thus contribute to the ecosystem.”
Jimmy Song expects to launch the fellowship and training program over the next two months. Initially, the project will train bitcoin developers, but in the future it may switch to other cryptocurrencies.
