One of the pioneers of antivirus software. One-time fugitive to Guatemala. Cryptocurrency evangelist. And now this guy wants to enter the presidential race in the upcoming 2020 US elections - John McAfee sure knows how to make some noise.
McAfee announced his candidacy on Saturday. According to him, the motive for this was the promotion of cryptocurrencies. “I believe this move will help the cryptocurrency community by giving us the best advertising platform in the world,” he said.
This is not McAfee’s first presidential rally. In 2016, he already attempted to participate in the presidential elections as a candidate from the Libertarian Party. McAfee presented his election platform at the National Convention of the Libertarian Party of the USA, but former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson became the party's candidate.
“If an offer comes from the Libertarian Party, I will run as their party candidate. Otherwise, I will create my own party,” McAfee tweeted.
McAfee appears to have no illusions about his chances in the presidential race. He tweeted: "Don't think I have a chance of winning. I don't. But what will fundamentally change America is not the President himself, but the process of his creation. And if my followers are enough, I will go on the biggest stage in the world and speak in front of everyone to voice the truth just like I did last time."
Judging by the number of responses, this tweet was as powerful and convincing as those for which our hero takes $105,000
McAfee's obsession with cryptocurrency may soon reach a new stage. At the end of May, he announced the creation of a physical cryptocurrency, which he called the “McAfee Redemption Unit,” which would be printed on paper. He describes it as “blockchain-related, redeemable, convertible, collectible.”
McAfee's nomination as a presidential candidate will only increase the popularity of his pages on social networks, and in general it will not harm. Surely, the prices in the price list for one advertising tweet of cryptocurrency or initial coin offering (ICO) will increase.
