In Zapolyarny, robbers stole 29 video cards, 10 processors and power supplies, as well as 5 motherboards and other equipment for cryptocurrency mining, totaling 491 thousand rubles, reports BI-PORT.
The criminals approached the robbery process very “creatively”. Even though the apartment is on the ground floor, they decided not to break the door lock or enter through the balcony. In their opinion, the most reliable way to commit robbery was undermining.
Currently, a criminal case has been opened regarding the robbery. It is difficult to make any predictions about the success of the investigation, since there is no video surveillance installed on the house and the identities of the robbers have not yet been established.
Such cases are a rarity for the Arctic. Before this, all crimes that were associated with digital currencies were only fraudulent. The scheme is usually simple: a northerner who wants to make money by mining cryptocurrencies, in the hope of buying equipment, transfers money to the scammer. Naturally, after transferring the money, the attackers disappear, and the future “would-be miner” is left with nothing.
There are a large number of attackers all over the world who want to make money from mining using stolen equipment. We previously reported that in the Bulgarian city of Blagoevgrad criminals stole a batch of mining equipment worth about €150 thousand.
