NEDO, Japan's largest government organization dedicated to the research and implementation of industrial technologies, is reportedly developing a project that will facilitate the exchange of information on nationwide trade.
The organization is engaged in these developments on behalf of a higher authority - the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
The project, called “Development of infrastructures for the creation of new industrial models using IoT functions”, aims to create a system that will digitize and improve the process of logistics data exchange between enterprises such as shipping companies, port authorities, banks and insurance companies.
In particular, the project participants also want to improve the efficiency of current processes that use printed media or PDF files. According to the official press release, these processes require time-consuming and expensive manual work - checking and correcting errors manually, as well as eliminating re-entry and redundant information into the database.
NEDO's blockchain project is a joint venture with Japan NTT Data, the largest IT company in the country. According to an NTT press release, the company plans to introduce new applications for this infrastructure platform in 2019.
