Christopher Eve, widely known for demanding that the police come and arrest himself for crypto donations to the Snowden Foundation, is awaiting trial on charges of cybercrime and attempted extortion, as well as theft of credit card data.
In the indictment itself there is no word “bitcoin” or mention of Snowden, although the anarchist and crypto-enthusiast Yves asked to detain him precisely for these reasons. The court hearing will take place on May 1 and will last 5 days. Neither the prosecution in the person of the prosecutor, nor Yves himself commented on the situation.
Christopher Yves became famous in the United States when he openly protested Barack Obama's decree regarding the introduction of personal sanctions against foreign hackers three years ago.
The sanctions resolution gives the government the right to seize the assets of anyone who commits or supports cyber attacks on the United States from abroad if they pose a real threat to the security of the country.
Then Yves saw a new document, as an instrument that prohibits any monetary support to Edward Snowden. At the time of Christopher’s statement, he had been on the territory of the Russian Federation for about three years.
The crypto enthusiast expressed his protest bysending 33 cents in Bitcoin to the Snowden Foundationand giving it wide publicity on social networks. This led to many donations to the foundation, and the press became very interested in Christopher himself. But then no one was arrested, to Yves' disappointment.
According to representatives of the prosecutor's office, Christopher broke the law a month after the protest, namely, he tried to blackmail the victim of a hacker attack. The programmer is also accused of storing information from 17 credit cards that he stole in the spring of 2016.
