Opera integrates cryptocurrency wallet into browser

In response to positive feedback from the crypto community and users, Opera Ltd., whose browser is used by 322 million people, has decided to integrate its recently released mobile cryptocurrency wallet into the browser.

The Norwegian company explains that such a wallet will help solve two main problems for users.

Firstly, Opera users no longer need to install and configure an extension for their PC browser; they simply need to connect the browser to the mobile application using a QR code, which will give them access to their mobile wallet.

Secondly, secure phone system access locking will provide secure storage of keys by allowing people to sign transactions with their fingerprints instead of using long passphrases. And the keys that control the assets will be stored only on the user's phone.

“By adding a crypto wallet directly to the browser, we have eliminated the need for complex extensions or separate applications,” said Charles Hamel, head of cryptocurrency product development at Opera.

As we reported when launched the wallet in private beta in July, the current version of the application only supports ETH, ERC-20 and ERC-721 tokens, however, the developers intend to add support for additional cryptocurrencies in the future.

Solution embedding the wallet in the browser is part of the company's long-term strategy. “Opera strives to keep pace with innovation. Our next goal is to make cryptocurrency mainstream. We believe that blockchain technology can transform the network of tomorrow and expect it to have a major impact in the coming years,” said Christian Kolondra, a company spokesman.
