Repentant hacker returns stolen tips to strippers

SpankChain, a platform associated with the adult industry and cryptocurrency, was the victim of a hack over the weekend. During the hack, the cybercriminal stole 165.38 ETH. SpankChain CEO Amin Soleimani managed to return the stolen goods without leaving his office.

Most of these thefts are never compensated for the individuals or the platform itself. However, the SpankChain hack was an interesting exception and surprised with an unexpected turn of events. Burning with shame, the hacker, who was accused of committing a completely vile act by robbing strippers, decided to return the stolen funds, not forgetting to receive a tidy reward for it.

To return the company's funds, the hacker provided the secret key for the wallet on which the stolen ETH was stored. The key was transferred during a phone call with SpankChain CEO Amin Soleimani, who then published the transaction on his blockchain to show the safe return of the funds. Along with returning the stolen 165.38 ETH, the hacker also helped the platform regain access to 4,000 BOOTY tokens that were frozen due to his attack.

Although the hacker's identity was not revealed, SpankChain showed its gratitude for the return of assets with a reward of $5,000, $4,000 for BOOTY tokens and 5.5 ETH. ($1,050), which the company claims was used as “seed capital for the attack.” The total monetary value of what SpankChain paid the hacker was around $9,000.

The hacker managed to log in after they discovered a bug in the payment channel's smart contract. Even though the theft occurred on a Saturday, the team didn't even notice the hack until the next day as they were busy fixing other bugs in the system. Of the total amount stolen, $9,300 was taken from customers' wallets.
