The Ethereum network is once again experiencing what appears to be a spam attack. A single address sends and receives transactions, consuming 24.85% of all Ethereum traffic. In the past, similar activity has been associated with airdrops or transactions from other projects, but this time it looks like a targeted spam attack.
One of the users studied these transactions and noticed a pattern in the repetition of wallet addresses that were replenished with a certain amount of ether to pay fees:
“This is a system of wallets that contain from 150,000 to 200,000 ether. Bots conduct transactions of random amounts to random addresses, confusing the block history. I do not have the necessary tools to detect the source problems.”
Over the past 24 hours, the Ethereum network has carried out a relatively high number of transactions, which still does not exceed 700,000. The price for a fast transaction has been raised slightly, but a regular transfer still costs $0.017. Based on these figures, the estimated cost of today's attack is approximately $20,000. There is currently no information about who may have been behind the spam attack.
Users rarely use the Ethereum network for smart contracts or decentralized applications.
“The most underrated site on the ETH network is @DappRadar. This site shows statistics that ETH developers and Dapps developers don't want to show you. In the last 24 hours, only 54 people used Augur services,” reported user WhalePanda.
Ethereum network congestion is not the only problem in the digital currency and blockchain market. The EOS blockchain, which positions itself as an alternative to Ethereum, has also been deliberately overloaded with transactions.
What's happening on the EOS network
Hype: low fees, applications for using the blockchain in real life, the best alternative to ether.
Reality: governance problems, greed, centralization, account blocking. There are no applications, but there is token spam," this was the assessment of the situation by Twitter user Carter Woitzel.
The EOS network has been at the top of the Blocktivity rankings for several days now, in the last 24 hours it has carried out more than 6 million transactions. At the moment, there are no statistics on the use of EOS decentralized applications. Network congestion problems create a false impression of huge activity in the cryptocurrency market, although many of its projects are not used at all. Many exchanges have also published false exchange volumes for attracting new users and increasing ratings.
