According to a recent Facebook post, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who is currently campaigning for the presidency in the March 2019 elections, wants to fight corruption using blockchain.
Tymoshenko dedicated this post to the International Anti-Corruption Day and said that Ukraine is “immersed in total corruption.” She further explained that her All-Ukrainian Association “Batkivshchyna” is trying to fight bribery.
The former Prime Minister called blockchain an effective tool for public administration. According to Tymoshenko, in order to combat corruption, all state registers must be stored on the blockchain. Speaking at a forum in Kyiv in July, she called blockchain an ideal technology for eliminating corruption:
Blockchain is an ideal anti-corruption technology that has proven its effectiveness in the international arena. In order to eliminate corruption and protect the personal information of citizens, we must transfer all administration systems to the blockchain.
According to Cointelegraph, the Ukrainian Election Commission conducted pilot voting experiment on 28 nodes of the NEM blockchain. Alexander Stelmakh, head of the State Register of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, said that they “continue to experiment with the use of blockchain technology during voting.”
The country is also considering the possibility of a state cryptocurrency, e-hryvnia, which would operate on the blockchain and be backed by the national currency. Supporters of the creation of a state centralized token believe that it will be able to increase the speed of non-cash payments, as well as reduce their cost.
