Ethereum 2.0 developers have announced that the first Beacon Chain Altair mainnet update is scheduled for October 27th.
According to a tweet from developer Danny Ryan, the update will provide support for the light client, fix problems with incentives for validators, and also adjust penalties in accordance with EIP-2982.
Altair will be followed by the removal of a difficulty bomb, which will increase the difficulty of mining. This will be followed by a full upgrade to PoS.
Altair is a kind of dress rehearsal for the merger, which brings it closer to the Ethereum 2.0 update itself.
