The latest test version of the Raiden network for the Ethereum blockchain has been launched

Last week, the developers announced the launch of a new test network, Raiden, for the Ethereum blockchain, the final stage of testing before the planned release of the version to the main network this summer.

Nearly two years after the release of the first proof of concept, the Raiden payment channel has launched its second testnet. According to the project announcement, Raiden sees this testnet as an opportunity to identify minor issues and any remaining bugs before its final launch. The project team encourages developers to help with testing and for this purpose provides them with Github, a user interface and an API, hoping for real help. And soon he promises to launch a bounty program.

The project itself Raiden appeared to solve the problems of scaling the Ethereum network. Essentially,  Raiden is similar to the Lightning Network protocol, a solution for the Bitcoin blockchain that has already successfully addressed the network's core problems.

Raiden is an alternative peer-to-peer set of payment channels that will take most transactions outside the Ethereum blockchain. Thereby reducing traffic on the blockchain and increasing the potential transaction speed. Каналы записывают транзакций между пользователями, только добавляя их в блокчейн после закрытия транзакций. In its simplest version, two transaction parties would enter the Raiden payment channel and make a series of transactions privately. Eventually, they will leave the channel and their ending balances, rather than each individual transaction, will be added to the blockchain.

The first test of Raiden started in September 2017. There were plans to release a "minimum viable product" this year, but those plans changed and only a test version was released. The team agreed that they would not call it viable until it was actually safe to use and deploy on the mainnet. As insurance, the release features new code for smart contracts and payment channels that will help preserve tokens in the event of an inadvertent account closure.

The Raiden network had a successful token issuance to raise funds in late October 2017, which ended on November 1.

Raiden has not made any major announcements about the project's progress since then, although there have been regular announcements about code updates and bug fixes.

Release date: The main network has not yet been named, but the team is confident that this will happen this summer.
