The three-day blockchain conference Consensus 2018 has completed its work. As promised, the fourth conference was the most large-scale and impressive in composition. Over the course of three days, 250 speakers and experts spoke, and there were more than 8,000 guests.

About the crypto market

The previous Consensus conference brought unprecedented revival to the market, then the Bitcoin rate jumped by as much as 69% and continued to grow for another two months. This year, the optimistic expectations of crypto investors did not materialize. The total market capitalization decreased from $409 billion to $372 billion. During the conference, Bitcoin fell in price by 5%.

Cloud computing platform iExec announced a partnership with Intel to develop joint solutions to protect against unauthorized access. 

Startup Circle announced its own token, pegged to the value of the US dollar, Circle USD Coin (USDC). 

The Winklevoss Twins announced the addition of the Zcash cryptocurrency to the Gemini exchange listing. It became the "world's first licensed exchange" to support a privacy-focused coin. 

CIO Journal, JP Morgan Chase Co. demonstrated a prototype of their new blockchain platform for capital markets. 

The head of the logistics giant FedEx, Fred Smith, said that blockchain is the future, so his company will actively use the new technology to “revolutionize the industry.” 

Square CEO Jack Dorsey believes in Bitcoin and, according to him, Square will collaborate with Lightning Labs and look for a working solution that will allow mass adoption of the first cryptocurrency. 

SEC Cybercrime Division Chief Robert Cohen, CFTC Enforcement Director James McDonald, and US Deputy Attorney General Sujit Raman noted that their agencies are committed to protecting Americans from fraudsters, so they will actively monitor the digital asset industry. Also, regulators will not interfere with the ICO, but will carefully study this issue. 


About the curious

The founder of the Ethereum startup Consensys Joseph Lubin and Blockchain Capital partner Jimmy Song made a curious bet right on stage regarding the future of the blockchain. 

The Lamborghini flaunted in front of the entrance turned out to be just a fake.. The cars were rented for the duration of the conference, and did not belong to its participants.

A vending machine from the Civic company treated everyone over 21 to beer. 

John Finley, a man with a sign picketed the event claiming that 4.5 million XEM tokens were stolen from him.
