According to CNBC, Google has adopted a new policy according to which it will change its views on advertising related to cryptocurrency and will allow some types of it. Facebook made the same decision in June.
Initially the decision to ban advertising was due to the company’s desire to protect customers from fraud. The advertising ban was announced in March, but did not take effect until three months later and applied to initial coin offerings (ICOs), binary options, trading advisory services and cryptocurrency wallets.
Soon, some countries banned not only advertising, but also cryptocurrency itself, considering it dangerous for inexperienced investors. Critics also saw the nascent cryptocurrency industry as a breeding ground for criminal activity. But as the market developed and awareness increased, some of the bans in different countries were lifted.
The advertising ban will be partially lifted.
Advertising of cryptocurrency platforms will be allowed, however, advertising of ICOs, binary options and trading advisory services will still be prohibited. As part of the new policy, advertising of crypto exchanges is allowed in the USA and Japan. Therefore, the company has set a number of requirements for advertisers, including that they must be certified by Google for each specific country in which their ads are shown, and must apply for such certification when the policy goes into effect in October.
