Gibraltar-based Lottoland has announced the launch of the Bitcoin Lotto lottery, with a jackpot of 1,000 BTC ($16.8 million as of publication date). The lottery will take place in Ireland, with draws taking place every day except Sunday.
The lottery is based on the popular 6/49 lottery format, in which participants simply choose six numbers from 1 to 49. A lottery ticket costs €3.50. The probability of winning is 14000000/1. The odds are slim, but the jackpot amount is impressive.
“We are pleased to announce the launch of the most exclusive lottery product in the world. 1000 BTC is worth more than 14 million euros today, but could be worth twice that tomorrow. "Bitcoin is a global phenomenon and Lottoland is giving customers the opportunity to participate in a draw for it," said CEO Nigel Birrell when announcing the event.
The first draw will take place at 8:30pm on the evening of Sunday 24 December.
