According to the French publication L’Usine Digitale, Daimler, the owner of the Mercedes-Benz brand, unveiled the MobiCOIN project at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona.
These coins will be used to reward drivers who care about the environment and adhere to the principles of environmentally friendly driving.
At the moment, MobiCOIN is at the experimental stage, which began in February and will last 3 months. The trial involves 500 Mercedes drivers, who can earn cryptocurrency by collecting “environmental points.” When calculating the total number of points, smooth acceleration and braking are taken into account.
Information about how the vehicle behaves is recorded in a mobile wallet application, with which drivers can “buy” their rewards. To minimize the risk of an accident, trip data cannot be found out in real time. All information will be available only after the trip ends.
The most successful drivers of the project, who have proven their commitment to being as environmentally friendly as possible and have achieved the highest performance, will be able to exchange MobiCOIN for entrance tickets to various events. So, on their list you can find the MercedesCup final and even Berlin Fashion Week.
