Hackers estimated the work of the website of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine at 0.1 bitcoin

Hackers estimated the work of the website of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine at 0.1 bitcoin

The case is too reminiscent of a comedy or farce, but we cannot help but cover this news.

The website of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine www.mev.gov.ua is blocked. The scammers demand a ransom for unlocking in the amount of 0.1 bitcoin.

A message about this is posted on the main page of the site.

"Your important files from the site are encrypted... You may be desperately looking for a means to recover your files, but not waste time! No one will be able to decrypt your files without our special decoding service."

They warned that they had added a countdown timer that counts the time until self-destruction.

The department assures that the site contains exclusively public information and does not contain information with limited access.

The Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine itself, according to the press secretary of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine Yulia Kvitko, has not yet contacted cyber police officers. But, in her own words: “A working group has been created and IT security specialists have been involved. They are analyzing the reasons and plan to resume the site in the near future.”

In light of what is happening, we are interested in several questions:

1. Does the size of the ransom hint at the solvency of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine? 900 dollars for information from the ministerial website: either the hacker got it short, or this was a demonstration.

2. What is the quantitative and qualitative composition of the Ukrainian cyber police squad working on this attack?

3. How much does the Ministry de facto pay IT specialists for the support and maintenance of this site, and when was the last payment? And where can I look at the results of the tender for the development of this particular site?

4.  How much will it cost to test hack your website to improve its reliability?
