The ranking of the most influential personalities in cryptocurrency based on Twitter data

ICOs looking for a public figure to become their company's face can now consult a specially curated list. Decentralized cryptocurrencies do not have to have a leader, however, there are people who influence the digital currency market more than others. The list, called Crypto Influencers, represents the top 300 personalities in the cryptocurrency world.

Crypto Influencers promises to provide an “algorithmically generated list of the most influential people in the industry on Twitter.” Despite some notable omissions, it does a really good job of ranking famous figures based on how active they and their Twitter followers are.

The Crypto Influencers site has two sections: People and Brands. Both have sorting by name or title, site, location, subscribers, biography.

Firstly, this list serves as a good reference for those who are new to cryptocurrencies. A journalist looking for a suitable quote can find it there.  An ICO that is looking for a consultant or media platform to attract its target audience should start with this list. Secondly, Crypto Influencers attract attention even out of banal curiosity.

Getting on this list can become a source of personal pride for a trader. Someone didn't make it into the top 300 and why? Why is zcash developer Zooko in the top 10, but Tuur Demeiter is not? You can ask similar questions by visiting the site.

Explaining the algorithm underlying the system, the developers indicate:

“Both Justin Bieber (105 million subscribers) and Vitalik Buterin (600 thousand subscribers) are influential personalities. There are people who follow their activities and are ready to listen to their advice. While Bieber has more subscribers, they have greater solvency Buterin's followers. Therefore, Buterin is more influential from this point of view.”

Obviously, no one expects to be on the list. However, the list still raised several questions. Why is Chris Berniske only 58th? Or why did Jacob Appelbaum, who has been inactive for almost a year, even make the list? Apparently, the algorithm has some flaws, but, as they say, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
