MailChimp blocks cryptocurrency ads

MailChimp, an American company and Internet service of the same name, one of the leaders in email marketing, has begun blocking advertising for cryptocurrencies and ICOs. MailChimp helps clients create automated, targeted emails and promotional campaigns to personalize their marketing. It is one of the top five email marketing platforms.

The ban came into effect when MailChimp adopted a new “Acceptable Use Policy” on March 29.

“We cannot permit companies that are engaged in the sale, transaction, exchange, storage, marketing or development of cryptocurrencies, virtual currencies and any digital assets associated with an initial coin offering to use our services to conduct such activities. If you violate the acceptable use policy, we may disable your account,” MailChimp said.

However, in response to questions about the new policy on Twitter, the company noted that not all cryptocurrency-related information is prohibited. Dissemination of information about cryptocurrency is permitted as long as the sender is not involved in the production, sale, exchange, storage or marketing of cryptocurrency.

MailChimp developed its new policy after Facebook, Google, Snapchat and Twitter took similar measures. The advertising ban is expected to help combat fraud, phishing and misleading activities.

Meanwhile, the newly created Eurasian Blockchain Association, which includes Russian, Chinese and South Korean cryptocurrency and blockchain associations, plans to file a lawsuit againstthe above-mentioned media platforms regarding such a ban.
