French gaming giant Atari has partnered with blockchain startup Animoca Brands to create blockchain versions of two of its most popular mobile games, RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad.
Animoca Brands plans to launch blockchain versions in the second half of 2019.
RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch is a popular theme park management simulation game for iOS and Android devices that has been downloaded more than 19 million times worldwide. Goon Squad is a card-based multiplayer video game for iOS and Android released in 2017.
As consideration for the license to develop and publish the games, Animoca Brands will pay Atari a minimum guarantee against future earnings of US$250,000, payable in shares. This will make Atari a strategic shareholder of Animoca Brands.
A percentage of profits will be paid to Atari once total gaming revenue exceeds $500,000.
Animoca uses blockchain technology and artificial intelligence to develop and launch games and other applications for smartphones and tablets. Meanwhile, Atari, founded in 1972, is the oldest brand in the field of video games, game consoles and personal computers.
