eBay will start accepting cryptocurrency. Why does the company need this?

The American trading platform eBay plans to start accepting payments for its goods in cryptocurrency - perhaps this will be announced as early as March 10. What benefits does she see from this and what other companies are interested in cryptocurrency in this regard?

Ebay is mulling about accepting payments for goods in cryptocurrency, believing it would attract younger customers to the marketplace. Now you can pay on eBay using Google Pay and Apple Pay, in addition, the company is developing a partnership with the Afterpay service.

At the same time, the company avoided the issue of using cryptocurrency as a means of payment until recently (although some rumors began to circulate back in 2019), but the desire to gain popularity among the millennial generation obviously forced EBay to think about this issue. As part of the development of this area, last year on the eBay platform, users had the opportunity to trade non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Who has already decided to work with cryptocurrency?

EBay, of course, is not the first market participant who has thought about starting to accept cryptocurrency as a means of payment for their goods and services. In 2021, this decision was made by the Visa payment system, which launched a corresponding pilot project. She also had plans to release her own crypto card, the owners of which would receive cashback in bitcoins.

Giants such as Bank of New York, BlackRock and Mastercard also considered the possibility of conducting payment transactions with cryptocurrencies. Taxi service Uber may also start accepting digital currency from passengers as payment for trips.

In addition, Elon Musk’s Tesla corporation is thinking about resuming accepting such payments for its electric cars. She had already done this before, but refused due to the environmental friendliness of the cryptocurrency. Later, Musk wrote that Tesla would resume selling electric cars for Bitcoin when mining becomes more environmentally friendly.

The world's largest companies are interested in cryptocurrency becoming part of their payment system. In this way, they hope to attract a new audience and keep up with progress.
