Local authorities have approved Elon Musk's proposal to build a network of underground tunnels in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Boring Company has begun implementing the Vegas Loop project, which will provide fast and inexpensive Tesla rides through the underground tunnels of Las Vegas.
The company has already launched a prototype of the future project - a mini-tunnel under the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), less than a mile long. In total, the tunnel will consist of 51 stations. State authorities have already issued Musk a construction permit.
Vegas Loop will connect hotels, casinos, a new football stadium, LVCC and an international airport. The county estimates the Vegas Loop will carry 57,000 passengers per hour. You can order a ride on an underground taxi using a mobile application similar to Uber. The five-mile drive from the airport to downtown is expected to take five minutes and cost about $10.
The Boring Company eventually plans to use Tesla's self-driving cars in the Vegas Loop. Currently, cars in the tunnel are manually controlled.
Construction is expected to be completed in three years, with about 20 stations opening each year. The first station is planned to be officially opened by the end of this year. All construction costs are covered by the Musk company with a share in entertainment centers and casinos located near future stations.
