Technology company Slate Entertainment Group has acquired the rights to James Corden and Fulwell 73's documentary “Beyond Bitcoin” for broadcast on its blockchain VoD platform Binge. The seven-figure deal comes on the heels of the announcement that the Sitges international fantasy film festival will become the first major festival to accept cryptocurrency.
The documentary, directed by Jake Witzenfeld, tells the stories of crypto financier Ryan Radlov, blockchain diplomat Perianne Boring and anarcho-capitalist Roger Ver. Three separate storylines will follow the events that happened to them on their path to decentralization, the redistribution of money and power.
The film will explore the rise of altcoins, civil war within the crypto community, the proliferation of ICOs, the evolution of dialogue with authorities and regulators, and the potential of blockchain technology beyond its application in cryptocurrency.
The deal with Fulwell 73 and Conch Studios was negotiated by consultant Slate Entertainment Group - XYZ Films. "Beyond Bitcoin" will be released in March 2019.
“We're not making a movie about the hype around the price of Bitcoin. It's a global portrait of a new future in all its complexity, told through the stories of three different passionate innovator-dreamers,” said Witzenfield.
“Our company is always looking for new innovative distribution platforms, new ways to interact and engage audiences, and ideal partners for our content,” added the co-founder. Fulwell 73 Leo Perlman. "Binge is a perfect fit for our film and is a natural place for users to discover and experience this content. We are excited to partner with a company that provides unprecedented transparency, advanced analytics, guaranteed payment terms - all of which enable producers to choose distribution options other than those already in the marketplace."
