The Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) will become the first party organization in the United States to accept cryptocurrency contributions to support candidates in elections.
The NRCC said it will accept cryptocurrency through the BitPay processing service in BTC and BCH, which will be converted into US dollars before they reach the committee's account. NRCC will not receive cryptocurrency payments directly.
This authorizes the committee to accept individual donations on a general basis, up to $10,000 per year, rather than the $100 cap that is available for cryptocurrency transfers.
The NRCC said it will collect identifying information from all individuals who donate to the committee using cryptocurrency.
NRCC will receive the same personally relevant information that we receive with any other contributions.
Some US political candidates, including former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, have accepted donations using cryptocurrency.
