Iceland is one of the centers of the mining industry, which criminals have begun to abuse. In the municipalities of Reykjanesbaer and Borgarburdo, there was a large-scale theft of crypto equipment totaling 200 million kroner or $1,990,000.
The Icelandic company Advania reported the crime, and on February 21, local police managed to detain two robbery suspects, writes Cointelegtaph.
Earlier, the Icelandic publication Visir reported that three hacks were committed between December 5, 2017 and January 16, 2018. 600 video cards, 100 power supplies, 100 motherboards, 100 memory cards and 100 processors were stolen from a house in the Reykjanesbaer municipality.
Fortunately, CCTV cameras were able to record the criminals, which led to the arrest of two suspects.
The burglars also broke into data centers in the municipality of Borgarburdo. A total of 600 computers were stolen.
Not all of the stolen equipment was used for data storage, so the company suffered only financial losses.
Recall that earlier in Murmansk region, mining equipment was stolen worth half a million rubles.
