The Slovenian company NiceHash suffered a hacker attack in December, during which a wallet containing 4,700 Bitcoins, which at that time was worth about $59 million, was hacked.
On its site, the company united buyers and sellers, as well as their computing power for mining different types of cryptocurrencies. By renting hash power, service users could make a profit through cloud mining.
After the incident, all operations on the platform were suspended for two weeks. On the Reddit website, the company commented on the hack: “Our payment system was compromised and the contents of our Bitcoin wallet were stolen. We are trying to determine the exact number of coins stolen.”
After calculating the losses, which are now estimated at $32.4 million due to the decline in the price of Bitcoin, the company implemented a repayment program to compensate affected users and began paying 10% monthly in February. The company has now paid out more than 60% of the funds stolen during the hack.
Kun Njord, one of the platform's users, reported that his friend, who joined the platform before the hack, lost about 1 bitcoin, but has already received a full refund of his losses, which confirms the firmness of the company's intentions.
