The NFT community has rallied around Bored Ape Yacht Club after the identities of the founders were revealed in a Buzzfeed article.
A Buzzfeed article deprived the founders of the most popular NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club of their anonymity. US citizens Greg Solano and Wiley Aronov were hiding behind the pseudonyms “Gordon Goner” and “Gargamel”.
Businessmen called the incident doxxing—disclosure of their names without consent. Solano wrote:
Doxing against my will. Well then.
The community reacted negatively to this invasion of personal space, because privacy is a basic human right and an important component of true freedom. Snoop Dogg said that such “revelation of identities is a direct call to action for criminals.”
However, according to Buzzfeed journalists, this is standard business journalism - the project brings in billions of dollars to the creators and they cannot remain anonymous and hide behind pseudonyms.
Today the market capitalization of the collection is estimated at $2.8 billion.
