NYSE plans to open NFT marketplace

NYSE plans to open NFT marketplace

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) plans to add non-fungible token (NFT) trading and issue its own cryptocurrency.

The exchange, with a 200-year trading history, filed a trademark application with the US Patent Office on February 10, expressing its intention to become an exchange not only for stocks, but also for cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

The NYSE is the world's largest stock exchange by market capitalization, with daily trading volumes in the hundreds of billions of dollars.

The new NFT marketplace will have to compete with existing exchanges. There are about 60 similar companies operating in the NFT market. OpenSea leads the way with the most funding, while AgoraLV and Rarible are among the most prominent NFT marketplaces.

The largest crypto exchanges Coinbase and Binance also entered into the NFT space.
