Fortune published its annual “40 Under 40” ranking, which lists the most influential entrepreneurs who have not yet reached the age of forty. The new ranking includes several personalities from the field of cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin and Coinbase founder Brian Armstrong are again on this list. They have been members of this “club” since 2016. This year, in addition to Buterin and Armstrong, Fortune gave a place in its ranking to several more entrepreneurs - the creators of Robinhood, Vlad Tenev and Baziu Bhat. Although Pavel Durov is not a blockchain entrepreneur, he was also included in the "40 under 40" list, as his ICO raised more than $1.7 billion last year.
Given the current hype and interest around cryptocurrencies and blockchain, it is not at all surprising that so many digital businessmen have made it into the Fortune list.
It is expected that the presence of cryptocurrency entrepreneurs in such a ranking will only stimulate the growth of the digital asset market. However, it is still strange to see the names of the heads of blockchain companies next to names such as Mark Zuckerberg, Rihanna and Donald Glover.
There is also an interesting question: did Buterin and his company deserve a place on the list?
It is worth remembering that, unlike Zuckerberg and other experienced businessmen from this top, blockchain entrepreneurs have yet to prove to the world that their projects are truly worthy of attention. Ethereum, for example, still has not solved its scaling problems, and with the current regulatory chaos around the world it is difficult to predict the future of Coinbase and Robinhood.
However, getting on this list is not an easy task. The fact that five cryptocurrency entrepreneurs made it into the ranking is a huge success for the entire industry. Time will tell how long they will stay in these places.
