Reddit co-founder remains positive despite Bitcoin volatility

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian said in an interview with Yahoo Finance that Bitcoin is poised for success. Ohanian firmly believes that the instability of fiat currencies in countries experiencing financial crises opens up new opportunities for cryptocurrencies such as Dash and Bitcoin.

Back in 2011, Alexis Ohanian, along with his partner Gary Tan, founded Initialized Capital, a venture capital fund that invests in startups, and became one of the earliest investors in the digital asset platform Coinbase.

He believes that cryptocurrency has socio-political significance in countries such as Türkiye, where citizens have lost faith in the national currency, which has led to an increase in bitcoin trading volumes. The economic condition of Turkish citizens has deteriorated significantly after Trump increased tariffs on steel and aluminum exports, and the decline in the value of the Turkish lira contributed to the rise in popularity of bitcoin

One country that has used cryptocurrency to prop up its faltering economy is Venezuela, where Dash is a great substitute for private money. The Venezuelan government has also launched a national coin, petro, as a means of attracting foreign capital to boost the economy.

Ohanian is enthusiastic about the success of cryptocurrencies, although he believes that it is only an early stage of development and will take some time for it to become mainstream. He also believes that cryptocurrency exchanges such as Coinbase can have a beneficial effect on the development of the ecosystem.

“Regardless of volatility, more and more people are creating accounts and accepting cryptocurrency payments, because it is not about price, but about the ideological confrontation between fiat and cryptocurrency assets,” says Alexis Ohanian.
