According to Finance Magnates, citing Sina, a user with the nickname “Yi Mei” bought 96,000 bitcoins worth about $1 billion. According to rumors, the name behind this nickname is the Chinese billionaire, CEO of NetEase, William Ding.
Rumors that it was Mr. Dean who was the mystery buyer appeared after screenshots of correspondence between the businessman’s close friends became available. Which, however, denies in every possible way his purchase of cryptocurrency and his relationship to the “Yi Mei” profile.
William Dean has long been a supporter of blockchain technologies. He has invested substantial capital in an American startup called ArcBlock, which may well become the “first blockchain” with which decentralized applications will be created.
Whoever this mysterious buyer is, one thing is clear - such a significant acquisition has a significant impact not only on Bitcoin, but also on other cryptocurrencies.
