Biden Plans to Appoint Crypto Opponent to Head OCC

According to Bloomberg, the Biden administration plans to appoint Cornell University professor Saule Omarova to head the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the agency that oversees the banking sector.


Omarova has criticized both the traditional banking system and cryptocurrencies. According to her, digital assets “basically play into the hands of the inefficient financial system that we have today.” 


She has repeatedly stated that cryptocurrencies threaten the financial stability of the United States. In addition, large private financial companies may abuse cryptocurrencies to manipulate the market and gain profit.
