Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who has only held this post since January of this year, categorically rejected the legal future of Bitcoin in the country.
Estonia was previously considered one of the most likely candidates for priority regulation of cryptocurrency in the EU.
However, the country's Prime Minister destroyed the illusions of Bitcoin supporters. During a meeting with the media, she stated that Estonia will not open the door to cryptocurrencies.
I know one of my predecessors was a big proponent of cryptocurrency, but I'm very cautious. Coinbase and major crypto companies have reached out to me urging me to “make it legal in Estonia,” but I'm not so sure.
Kallas explained that cyber attacks and ransomware are the main reasons not to use cryptocurrency at this stage.
