Russian authorities plan to significantly limit the loading speed of websites that do not comply with government regulations.
The gradual speed limit threatens a number of foreign platforms, social networks and resources. According to the new plan of regulators, all companies providing capacity for hosting websites on the network will receive the right to operate only after accreditation in the Russian Federation. The conditions for obtaining the document include the mandatory provision of confidential user information to the FSB.
Hristo Grozdev, a journalist for the independent publication Bellingcat, spoke about this prospect for the Russian Internet. Referring to his investigation, he claims that only accredited companies that provide the FSB with complete information on each of their users will be able to operate.
According to his information, the work of sites that do not comply with the requirements of the authorities will begin to gradually slow down to 24 Kbps.
Roskomnadzor has already tested a mechanism for slowing down traffic on Twitter this year and blocked six VPN services.
