New Taiwan Central Bank Governor Doesn't Believe in Digital Currencies

At a meeting with lawmakers this week, Taiwan's new central bank governor, Yang Chin-Long, was asked whether Taiwan's central bank, like some national banks in other countries, plans to issue its own cryptocurrency and what the bank's cryptocurrency policy will be in the near future.

According to the Taiwanese publication Apple Daily, Yang Chin-Long would like to use cryptocurrency as a means of payment, but due to its volatility and speculative nature, this is not possible for him.

In addition,  Yang Chin noted that no central bank has officially issued a legal cryptocurrency yet, but there are several attempts at such an issue in the development stage.

The Central Bank of Taiwan is currently monitoring trends and conducting its own experiments, although they are not related to the issuance of Taiwanese cryptocurrency. The central bank is considering the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence to process large databases and is exploring ways to improve the security and efficiency of payment systems using decentralized blockchain technology.
