Roskomnadzor fulfilled its July promise and limited access to VPN services that did not comply with the regulator’s requirements.
Another 6 services for circumventing prohibitions were subject to sanctions: Hola!VPN, ExpressVPN, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited, Nord VPN, Speedify VPN and IPVanish VPN.
The agency believes that these companies violate the requirements of the Russian Federation regarding the dissemination of information about drugs, terrorism, child pornography, and similar prohibited content.
Two years ago, the regulator tried to take control of 10 large VPN services by monitoring the traffic of their users. The companies did not agree to this requirement. In May of this year, the regulator issued a warning about limiting the activities of services that do not comply with the law. At the beginning of the summer, the supervisory authority restricted access to VyprVPN and Opera VPN.
Roskomnadzor also created a “white list” of VPN services. Entry into it is possible subject to compliance with all requirements of Russian regulators.
