The US Congress will hold hearings on the energy consumption of Bitcoin mining

The Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on the environmental impact of mining the first cryptocurrency.

The main discussion will be around CO2 emissions from Bitcoin mining and its impact on global warming. In addition, the meeting will address issues of load on energy systems.

The meeting can be watched live on Thursday, January 20.

A direct ban on mining the first cryptocurrency is unlikely. Large mining pools have organically integrated into the US economy and are traded on the New York Stock Exchange. The Mining Council, which includes Elon Musk and Michael Saylor, will continue to lobby for the interests of the crypto industry. However, regulatory restrictions may force miners to look for new jurisdictions.

After the ban on Bitcoin mining in China, the United States accounted for 35.4%, and Kazakhstan - 18.1% of the global hashrate.

Internet interruptions in Kazakhstan significantly affected the hashrate, but by the time of writing it had recovered to a new historical maximum.
