The McAfee team is offering a reward for any information regarding the potential theft of $100 million in cryptocurrency.
Most investors in the cryptocurrency industry are familiar with the ongoing string of lawsuits against companies and individual traders who have failed to deliver on their promises or misappropriated or sold crypto assets.
A recent theft at McAfee has forced McAfee to seek users' help in finding evidence against a crypto thief.
Instead of reaching out to users through its official website or social media, Jimmy Watson, CEO of McAfee, made a guest post on The Merkle website. His post is more of a request for help, revealing the history of crypto asset thefts in his company. He begins by describing the role of Luke Jenkins, who has been part of the team for at least a year, responsible for recording and storing all cryptocurrency payment data.
The director of McAfee is confident that Jenkins embezzled millions of tokens that were the property of the company, including ether and bitcoin. Luke Jenkins' holding is responsible for the digital assets and refuses to give up between fifty and one hundred million dollars (depending on the current market value). The McAfee team will conduct a thorough accounting of each token, but millions of coins, according to the director, were embezzled, and tens of millions of dollars in equivalent were stolen by Luke Jenkins.
Jimmy Watson insists that all allegations can be verified through email correspondence, accounting files, smart contracts and blockchain records. The company has already begun compiling a list of some of the losses that support the accusation.
The company is currently investigating each amount and has sent out a warning to legal departments, token creators, investors and CEOs of crypto exchanges. Jimmy Watson also noted that he personally received complaints about HITBTC, TopBTC and Yobit.
Currently, an internal review of about 30 different addresses is underway, including two addresses of team members. McAfee notes that all current Team McAfee employees are represented on the company's home page. And asks users to check this list and report immediately in case of fraud.
