The oldest cryptocurrency website showed a fake pop-up window about a Bitcoin giveaway.
Access to the site is currently limited. The criminals behind the scam encourage people to send bitcoins to their address, promising a return of double the amount.
By According to the latest data, scammers collected 0.4 BTC for $17,764. Moreover, the amount was carried out in one transaction and there are suspicions that it was made by the hackers themselves.
The site, which is run by a developer under the pseudonym “Cobra,” has not yet been able to find out exactly who is behind the hack. However, Cobra suggests that web infrastructure provider Cloudflare is to blame for the security breach, claiming that its actual server did not receive any traffic during the hack. The service, with which Bitcoin.org began cooperation just two months ago, provides protection against DDoS attacks, secure access to resources and DNS servers.
