In Zaporozhye, cyber police detained a hacker who distributed viruses to steal data

Operatives of the cybercrime department identified and detained a 22-year-old resident of the Zaporozhye region who was distributing malicious software to obtain personal information of network users.

A young hacker modified various viruses to gain access to confidential user data.

The network viruses he modified were not detected by anti-virus programs and allowed the fraudster to “fish out” data from the infected computer, obtaining passwords, logins and data from cryptocurrency wallets. A search of the suspect's place of residence revealed computer equipment with various malware found on its hard drive.

An investigation has been launched against an enterprising cyber fraudster under Part 1 of Art. 361-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, providing for up to 2 years of imprisonment. It is still unknown whether the fraudster managed to use the stolen personal data. Law enforcement officials are identifying the owners of infected computers and the damage caused by the hacker.

In recent years, the developing crypto industry cannot help but attract those who want to make quick and illegal money. The number of cyber thefts is growing in direct proportion to the spread of digital currencies. Law enforcement agencies are forced to make enormous efforts and keep up with the development of information technology and resourceful cyber fraudsters.

In the spring Ukrainian cyber police arrested two students who were selling virus software to steal cryptocurrencies from other people's user accounts.
