In 2021, with the rise in the price of Bitcoin, the number of gray crypto miners also increased - by as much as 40% compared to the previous year. Among pirated software, CoinHelper was the leader. The miner, aimed at users from the CIS, not only increases electricity bills and equipment wear and tear, but also collects confidential information from devices.
Experts foundthat the total monetary profit from the miner CoinHelper totaled $339,694.86.
The company's findings also indicate the spread of adware and phishing scams from pseudo-tech support. By tricking users into believing there was a serious technical problem, scammers gained remote access to the system.
Despite this, Avast reported a 28% decrease in the risk ratio of ransomware compared to the third quarter of 2021.
