The Ukrainian was selling malware that could be used to hack any account and empty the accounts of crypto exchange users.
An enterprising young man has created software that, according to its creator, makes it possible to empty the accounts of cryptocurrency traders.
This virus was sold on closed hacker forums, where the developer offered everyone the opportunity to gain access to the accounts of the owner of the infected computer. Downloaded onto the victim’s computer, the virus gave its creator access to the owner’s crypto-exchange and gaming accounts, allowing funds to be easily withdrawn.
The details of the operation that made it possible to identify the creator of the hacker program - a 23-year-old resident of the city of Kropyvnytskyi - are not disclosed. It is known that employees of the Kyiv Department of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine, during a search at the attacker’s place of residence, seized computer equipment. The equipment is subject to examination to identify evidence of criminal activity.
The cybercriminal has been charged with illegal interference in the operation of computers and computer networks (Part 2 of Article 361) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Now the hacker faces up to six years in prison, provided that an examination of computer equipment confirms the creation of the virus by its owner and the cyber fraudster is charged with committing a crime. Investigators also hope to find the number of computers that were hacked and the amounts illegally withdrawn from gaming application accounts and cryptocurrency exchange accounts during an examination of computer equipment.
Just a month earlier, police managed to identify a hacker who was distributing a virus program for mobile gadgets. A native of the Lviv region offered his services for hacking any accounts through the website he created. В июне киберполиция раскрыла группу хакеров, обманывавших держателей цифровой валюты через сеть фейковых веб-обменников по конвертации криптовалют. Also in progress is a case of fraud of a million hryvnia transferred for cryptocurrency.
