WhatsApp launches built-in stablecoin payments

WhatsApp has launched a pilot project that allows “a limited number of people” in the US to send and receive stablecoins directly in the conversation window.

The new functionality is provided by the Novi wallet, which was launched in test mode six weeks ago. Payments will be made in Pax Dollar (USDP), a stablecoin from Paxos pegged to the dollar.

According to the statement, sending a payment works the same as sending any application (photo, GIF, video) in a WhatsApp conversation. You just need to click on the attachment icon at the bottom of the chat and select “payments” in the pop-up window.

Novi representatives note that transactions within the application are free, there is no limit on their number and volume, and there are no fees for withdrawals.
