The Ministry of Finance supports the legalization of cryptocurrency trading on official exchanges. The corresponding norm will be defined in the bill “On Digital Financial Assets,” Deputy Minister of Finance Alexey Moiseev told reporters on the sidelines of the State Duma.
“Following the discussion at the public council, a number of comments were made, which we are now finalizing. The first is that we have not regulated in any way the issue related to the circulation of existing cryptocurrencies, that is, essentially the purchase and sale of bitcoins, roughly speaking. We don’t want to limit or regulate, but we will set some limits. For those who already have cryptocurrencies, nothing will happen. This means that subsequent purchases and sales will be somehow standardized. The general idea is that it will be necessary to buy and sell on official exchanges, as this will be declared and legalized,” he said.
According to him, the list of such trading platforms has not yet been determined. “This is the most debate now. This is what we will now actively discuss. This is the most unresolved issue right now. The rest is more or less clear,” Moiseev summed up.
However, the alarm on cryptocurrency transactions was sounded in the main department of security and information protection of the Bank of Russia. The deputy head of this department, Artem Sychev, told reporters that the criminal market is gradually switching to payments in cryptocurrencies, although it is too early to say that they have completely replaced real money there.
