Apple developing contactless controller and curved screen

Apple Inc. have begun work on a new touchless gesture controller and curved screen for iPhone that will help the company add a unique touch to its best-known product in an incredibly fast-growing market.

The new sensors will allow iPhone users to interact with the device by controlling the device with their finger, but without touching it. According to sources, the technology is unlikely to be available to the masses for at least two years.

Apple has long been developing new ways for people to interact with computers. The corporation's co-founder Steve Jobs popularized the computer mouse in the early 1980s. Apple's latest iPhones have a feature called 3D Touch that responds differently to different pressure levels. The new gesture technology will even take into account the proximity of your finger to the screen. 

According to sources, Apple is also developing displays for the iPhone that gradually curve inward from top to bottom. These displays will be different from Samsung's latest smartphone screens, which curve at the edges. Until now, every iPhone model has used a flat display. The iPhone X has an OLED screen that has a slight curve at the bottom, but it's difficult to see with the naked eye.

Screens using OLED technology can be bent or even folded in half, unlike the less flexible LCD screens used in previous Apple phones. An iPhone with a curved screen may appear in two to three years. Apple is also developing a new technology known as MicroLED, but that project could take three to five years to complete, according to Bloomberg. 

All of these features are still under development, and Apple may decide to stop working on the projects at any time. An Apple spokesman declined to comment on the matter. 

Work on these projects is being carried out in Cupertino, California. Since Apple, Samsung Electronics Co., Google and Huawei Technologies Co. began introducing features like full screens, better cameras and facial recognition around the same time, the smartphones released by these companies have become very similar to each other. Apple wants to change this state of affairs by giving its devices a unique design. 

According to IDC, after the launch of the iPhone X and iPhone 8 in the fourth quarter of 2017, Apple came out on top in smartphone sales (second and third were taken by Samsung and Huawei) receiving approximately 20% of the total market for 2017.. To remain a leader, Apple must develop new features and designs. Samsung is already working on a foldable smartphone, and Huawei continues to conquer the Asian market. 

While these Apple projects have not yet been officially confirmed, the company has short-term plans to add OLED technology to more devices. The corporation will release a second smartphone with a similar screen later this year. The screen of the new iPhone will be 6.5 inches, recall that the iPhone X display measures 5.8 inches. The company also plans to increase the size of the smartphone and release a new cheap model with an LCD screen. 

According to sources, the company is currently using OLED screen components purchased from Samsung, but they are also interested in LG displays.
