Faster, bigger, more reliable. What does 4G offer?

Ukrainian mobile operators have launched the first 4G base stations in major cities of Ukraine. Today this is spot coverage; operators will begin rolling out the main 4G coverage in July.

The term 4G stands for "fourth generation" and refers to mobile phone technology that allows 4G-compatible phones to connect to the Internet faster than before.

The improvement that 4G offers over 3G is less pronounced than the earlier technological leap from 2G to 3G. However, the fourth generation solves the main problem of 3G - loss of data transfer speed when the subscriber moves quickly (when traveling by train or car). While 3G and 4G essentially serve the same purpose, 4G is vastly superior to the third generation in most cases.

Difference between 3G and 4G:

Data speeds:

3G from 348 kbps, to 2048 kbps

4G from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbit/sec

Data transmission method:

3G uses circuit and packet switching;

4G is based on packet data protocols uses the IPv4 protocol;

Voice transmission:

3G code division technology includes 5 radio interfaces based on 3 different access technologies (FDMA, TDMA and CDMA)

4G uses Voice over IP technology, which allows voice signals to be transmitted over the Internet.

4G allows you to do everything that 3G can, but faster: web pages and content can be loaded within seconds, and streaming video and music are free of buffering. In addition, VoIP technology allows you to use cheap international calls over the Internet.

In practice, for the user the difference is as follows:

Uploading a photo to Facebook 3G 3-10 sec, 4G 1 sec

Buffering online music 3G 10 sec, 4G 1 sec

Downloading an hour and a half movie 3G 5 hours,     4G 8-10 minutes

Experts predict that 4G will be the catalyst for a host of new mobile Internet entertainment services that would previously have been unavailable.

Mobile entertainment providers are expected to take advantage of the promise of this technology to deliver high-definition video content directly to a 4G-connected mobile phone.

Finally, the mobile gaming experience will also be completely transformed by the speed of connectivity, offering more challenging online multiplayer games..

4G is a natural development of technology and is clearly not the last generation. There are already conversations about next-generation 5G networks around the world.
