Telegram introduced a service for user verification and authorization

Telegram has published information about a new messenger tool – Telegram Passport, a unified authorization system for identity services. Telegram promises that information will be protected with end-to-end encryption and will be stored in a decentralized cloud.

At its core, the new service is an archive of documents. Passport allows the user to add standard requested personal data or additional, at their discretion, and copies of various identification documents.

The peculiarity of Telegram Passport is that it allows you to obtain a unique identifier to confirm your identity and not have to go through the full user identification procedure each time. For example, when an ID is uploaded to the service, any Passport-compatible system will be able to query its details without requiring the user to upload it again. Thus, the user’s documents are downloaded only once, and Passport simply confirms their presence and authenticity to compatible services upon their request.

The use of the new tool, according to the developers, will simplify the process of registering users not only on any resources, but also on platforms for ICO and payment systems.

ePayments.com, an electronic payment system, already supports a data authentication service with Passport Telegram. There is a demo page on the official website that shows how the service works in practice.

Personal documents and data are supposed to be stored and encrypted in the Telegram cloud so that the system does not have access to this information. Telegram promises that in the future this cloud will be decentralized to make it secure.

Moreover, further development of the service involves authentication directly in Telegram profiles, which will allow the use of the profile itself instead of classical verification. According to the developers' promise, external services will not need to request data, because it will be enough to rely on verified Login Telegram accounts.

The service will be presented in version 4.9 of the application, which will be released soon.

Undoubtedly, Telegram itself is voicing rather ambitious plans and claims to be the new global identification center of the Network. Whether Telegram Passport's proposed authentication process will be revolutionary depends on widespread adoption of the service..

However, the use of Telegram Passport in the crypto industry would avoid accusations of ignoring the KYC procedure and jeopardize the anonymity of cryptocurrency payments. The messenger itself defined Passport as a kind of KYC for ICO.
